John O'Groats to Land's End
Fat bloke goes mad for charity!
Yes the rumours are true, notwithstanding the fact that I haven’t done anywhere near enough training, and so am far too fat and far too unfit, on the 2nd August I start a bike ride from John O’Groats to Land’s End also taking in Dunnet Head and Lizard Point so that I will also have visited the northern and southernmost points of the mainland.
Ok you can stop laughing now. It’s your turn to do something.
There is a greater purpose than pure masochism or even some sort of mid-life crisis, I am trying to do something really useful and raise money for three charities that are very close to my heart. In riding the length of the country I will journey just over 1000 miles and climb well over the height of Everest. What I am asking from you is that in return for having a laugh at the thought of me struggling up hills you put your hand in your pocket. My aim is to raise over £10,000 which will be split between Help for Heroes, The Royal Marines Charity & Alzheimer’s Support.
The plan is to complete the journey in two weeks or less so I should be arriving in Land’s End by the 15th August. I will post a full route in the next few days. I would be really grateful if you would take a couple of minutes to follow the link below to my Virgin Money Giving site and make a donation to these three really special charities that all do outstanding work to help those in need.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and in anticipation for your generosity. Please make your donation to: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/jonwebster1664 - you can either cut and paste this text or click on the image below
Finally please make sure you say “yes” when asked about Gift Aid, it costs you nothing and gets 25% more for the charities – there is such a thing as a free lunch - courtesy of HMRC!
Best wishes
Jon

How we help our heroes
Help for Heroes offers comprehensive support to those who have suffered life-changing injuries and illnesses in the line of duty. This is provided through grants to individuals, other charities and organisations, capital build projects and four Recovery Centres across the UK which offer support for life.
The money raised by the hugely generous public has been used to support the wounded, but there is still so much more to do. Soldiers, sailors and airmen who are injured today will still need our support tomorrow and in the days that follow, for the rest of their lives.
They are still battling and Help for Heroes will not let them battle alone.
They shouldn’t have to fight anymore
Royal Marines have always been to first to understand, first to adapt and respond and the first to overcome – that’s the Commando Mindset but today Royal Marines and their families are fighting battles they cannot win alone.
The Royal Marines Charity exists to help the entire Royal Marines family. We are strong believers in once a Marine, always a Marine. We offer a range of services to both serving and veterans. If you need help, the Royal Marines Charity is here for you. From Financial assistance to advice on finding a second, meaningful career. Explore our website or contact us to find out more.
